Why are lifecycle-calculated building services solutions needed?

The new Building Act will take into account the lifecycle impacts of buildings. This also includes the impacts of the manufacturing of construction products and their end-of-life waste treatment. A carbon footprint must be calculated for the project to obtain a building permit. Therefore, by choosing products with EPDs, contractee, designer, or contractor can easier fulfill the legal requirements.

EPD is always verified by an independent party

EPD, or Environmental Product Declaration, is a public document that describes the environmental impacts of a construction product during its life cycle comprehensively and transparently. EPD is always verified by a third-party. Therefore, the information provided in the EPD has been verified and the information is reliable.

The emissions database of the Finnish Environment Institute contains typical emission values for some construction products. However, the conservatism coefficient value of 1.2 must be used in the climate report prepared for the building permit. This means that emissions are 20% higher than the typical value. Therefore, product-specific emissions reported in the EPD are usually lower than the conservative emission value. In this way, the carbon footprint of the project can be minimized.

Five years of successful climate work

We have been actively working on mitigating climate change for five years, which has led to significant decrease in emissions for Climecon. From the first calculation, conducted in 2019, emissions have decreased by as much as 45%, which is equivalent to 1,730 tons of carbon dioxide. This amount is equivalent to driving 12.4 million kilometres by car, or almost three thousand people making a round trip from Helsinki to Munich each year. We publish our carbon footprint for the previous year and a summary of the highlights of our sustainability work annually.

OptiLumo luminaires for hoods and ventilation ceilings are perfect for professional kitchens and offer particularly suitable lighting for kitchens and the ideal color temperature for cooking.
