Vent.X tips – Designing high spaces

An excellent tool for examining throw lengths and throw patterns in high spaces is the “Optimize air flow” function. With the “Optimize to floor/wall” button, the program calculates the airflow for the air terminal device so that the throw length reaches exactly the floor or wall. “Optimize to 1.8 m plane” measures the airflow to reach the limit of the living zone, which is 1.8 m high.

The adjustment is made with the currently selected supply air temperature. If several airflow speeds are selected, the adjustment is made with the lowest speed. The effect of the selected throw pattern on the spread of the supply air in the space is also considered in the Optimize air flow function.

By changing the amount of airflow, the designer can use the Vent.X program to search for the most optimal solution for the ventilation of a high space, both for heating and cooling purposes. The throw pattern of the supply air also affects the throw length. The throw patterns can be changed with the “throw patterns” button.

With the Vent.X program, the HVAC designer can thus easily ensure that the supply air reaches the living area in a heating situation or that the supply air does not cause draft problems in a cooling situation.

Importance of accurate adjustment in air terminal devices

Unbalanced ventilation system is not energy efficient and often leads to indoor air problems. When the devices and the airflow rates are dimensioned correctly, just the right amount of air goes to the right place – not too little nor too much. In this way, the entire ventilation system works as planned. A properly adjusted ventilation system is energy efficient, air distribution is controlled, even and quiet.
