Climecon participated in its first EcoVadis sustainability assessment last year and achieved a bronze medal. Now, just a year later, our company’s sustainability work has received significant recognition: Climecon has risen to the silver level. This year, Climecon’s score increased from 62 to 71 out of a possible 100 points.
For example in Finland, the construction sector plays a key role in achieving climate goals. Buildings account for nearly 40% of total energy consumption, and the built environment generates about one-third of carbon dioxide emissions. The ventilation and heating systems designed and installed by contractors define a building’s energy efficiency and indoor climate for decades. Especially in ventilation, correct system sizing, airflow control, and optimization have a major impact on both comfort in living and working environments and on energy use.
The EU’s climate and sustainability policies are also reshaping the building services engineering landscape. The EU Taxonomy is a classification system that defines the criteria for sustainable activities and guides investors towards funding environmentally sustainable projects. This directly impacts which projects receive financing and under what terms and, in turn, the solutions that HVAC designers and contractors will actually implement.
Our sustainability work is based on our values, strategy, and commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The year 2024 was significant for Climecon’s sustainability work, and we have promoted many efforts related to environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and quality. For example, Climecon was one of the first construction product manufacturing companies to have approved a climate target through the Science Based Targets initiative, shortly SBTi.
We have been actively working on mitigating climate change for five years, which has led to significant decrease in emissions for Climecon. From the first calculation, conducted in 2019, emissions have decreased by as much as 45%, which is equivalent to 1,730 tons of carbon dioxide. This amount is equivalent to driving 12.4 million kilometres by car, or almost three thousand people making a round trip from Helsinki to Munich each year. We publish our carbon footprint for the previous year and a summary of the highlights of our sustainability work annually.
Climecon has been awarded the bronze medal of the EcoVadis responsibility rating system. EcoVadis evaluates 21 sustainable development criteria in four categories: environment, labor and human rights, ethical business principles and responsible procurement. We are ranked in the top 25 % and got excellent points regarding environmental responsibility. EcoVadis is the world’s largest and most trusted supplier of business responsibility ratings.
Climecon joins the Science Based Targets initiative and commits to emission reduction targets to mitigate climate change. This would make a good clickbait headline, but we want to tell you the truth. We have now calculated the environmental emissions of 2023. For several years, Climecon has been working actively to reduce the climate and environmental impacts caused by business operations.
