Climecon’s roof hoods are EPD verified

At Climecon, we invest in ensuring that our customers have reliable information about the environmental effects of our products. That’s why the OTSO and KONTIO product families are now EPD-verified. Life cycle calculation is part of our long-term responsibility work, which we work towards continuously. “What is promised is kept.”

“Our goal is to be the most responsible company in the ventilation industry in Finland. We will continue to produce the kind of product information that our customers can use to make sustainable choices in their projects,” says Climecon’s sustainability expert, Emma Piha. In addition to roof hoods, we have performed EPD verification for professional kitchen hoods and several air terminal devices.

The carbon-neutral goal of the built environment requires actions

In Finland, the goal of operators in the construction sector is to achieve carbon neutrality in the built environment by 2035. According to the law, new buildings must be sufficiently carbon-neutral by 2025 for the building permit to be issued. On the other hand, the value base of developers and property owners has also changed, and therefore, various types of sustainability information are being requested more and more. Many ways to verify the environmental impact of products have come to the market, and navigating the jungle of different certificates can be challenging. That’s why we at Climecon use EPD verification, a well-known and reliable life cycle assessment of construction products.

The EPD environmental report is a life cycle assessment verified by a third party, which extensively presents the environmental impact of construction products in addition to their carbon footprint. EPD’s calculation criteria are based on the international construction standards EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, which makes the results reliable and comparable. The life cycle assessment covers the carbon footprint of the products and the environmental effects during the product’s entire life cycle.

More environmentally friendly and responsible products

In addition to verifying environmental impacts, based on a comprehensive life cycle calculation, it is possible to locate areas for improvement in the company’s own operations: “Although environmental reports are important from the point of view of customer-oriented business, they also bring us a lot of lessons. With the help of EPD’s life cycle assessment, we can identify ways to improve our operations and thus reduce the carbon footprint of the products,” continues Emma. Our measures focus on sustainable raw material choices, optimizing production, minimizing waste material, streamlining logistics, and favoring local partners.
