TUISKU-AF Anti-frost with control

The TUISKU-AF snow and rain cover with demand-controlled de-icing heating ensures reliable ventilation operation and improves energy efficiency. The TUISKU-AF louvre with de-icing heating is designed for use in locations where weather conditions may cause snow or ice to accumulate on the louvre surfaces. The product is also available without demand-based control, in which case it is supplied with heating cables only.

Description

Demand-controlled de-icing heating reduces energy consumption

Intelligent snow and ice melting in the louvre system ensures that ventilation always operates at optimum performance. The system monitors temperature and detects snow accumulation on the louvre. Because de-icing is activated only when required, unnecessary energy consumption is avoided. The sensitivity of the snow detection system is factory-set, but it can – and should – be fine-tuned to suit the specific conditions of each installation.

De-icing heating control available for all TUISKU snow and rain covers

By preventing the build-up of ice and frost, pressure losses remain within the designed limits and excessive structural loads are avoided. The de-icing system is available for both single- and multi-section TUISKU units, with vertical or horizontal louvres, and for both flush-mounted and surface-mounted snow and rain covers.

TUISKU-AF snow and rain covers are equipped with a self-regulating heating cable designed for outdoor use. The products’ design, functionality, and electrical safety have been approved by SGS Fimko in accordance with EN 60335. The unit’s rated output is 1.485 kW/m² at 0°C.

The system consists of:

  • A TUISKU snow and rain cover equipped with a self-regulating heating cable designed for demanding conditions, installed on both the front and rear louvre sections.
  • An additional support grille that secures the heating cable firmly against the surfaces of the front and rear louvres.
  • A drainage tray with de-icing heating cable and drain connection.
  • Junction boxes and connection cables.
  • Snow and ice detection sensor together with a temperature sensor.
  • A control and power unit. Three standard power versions are available: 5.5 kW, 11 kW, and 18 kW. Larger systems up to 34 kW can be supplied on request.

Measurement Sensors, Control Unit and Power Unit

The system monitors humidity conditions and temperature. Using an intelligent algorithm based on these measurements, it detects the formation of snow or ice on the louvre surface.

The control unit and power unit should be installed close to the louvre and in a location that allows access for maintenance and service operations. However, they may also be installed further away from the louvre, at a distance of up to 50 metres.

The cables for the snow and ice detection sensor and the temperature sensor can likewise be extended up to 50 metres.

Dimensioning

Take into consideration while dimensioning

  • 230 V. 1,485 kW / m². 16A (Type C)
  • When sizing miniature circuit breakers, the number of power and connection cables must be taken into account.
  • The de-icing heating system should remain on for the entire period during which ice formation is likely to occur.
  • If ice accumulates on the product surface during severe frost conditions, it is recommended to shut down the ventilation system for approximately one hour to allow the de-icing heating system to warm the louvre surface and melt the ice.
  • The maximum recommended face velocity is 0.7 m/s.
  • For surface-mounted louvres, the drain connection is designed for a DN50 plastic drainage pipe.
  • The flush-mounted louvre features a 1¼-inch brass connection for the installation of a drain hose secured with a hose clamp.
  • It is always recommended that the de-icing heating system be controlled on a demand-based basis; refer to the Installation and Wiring Instructions for further guidance.
  • A single TUISKU-AF power unit can supply power to multiple modules simultaneously. This reduces the number of required components and lowers installation costs, provided that the total system power demand remains within the capacity of the power unit.
